SMSF statistics from the ATO

Written by Hein Preller , Posted in ATO SMSF

The statistic reports for the self-managed super fund (SMSF) market are published regularly by the ATO on a quarterly basis, to reflect the changes in the industry. This means that it would include all the details of the wounded up/established funds during recent financial years and an estimated amount of the assets held by SMSF’s for each type of asset.

The report includes wide ranges of information, but mainly focuses on:

  • SMSF population and asset allocation tables
  • Annual SMSF population analysis tables (such as membership sizes, member demographics, flow of funds, etc…)
  • SMSF quarterly establishment tables (such as age of new members, and income range of new members, etc…)

As at March 2014, the total number of SMSF’s increased to 528,701 with the number of Members in SMSF’s up to 1,006,975.

The table below is an extraction of the statistic report from the Tax Office, which was published on 7 April 2014.
